Ingredients
  

Meat
  • 1 lb ground beef or ground turkey
Vegetables
  • 1 medium onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 medium bell pepper diced
  • 1 medium carrot diced
  • 1 medium potato diced
Tomato Base
  • 1 can diced tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoon tomato paste
Spices
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt to taste
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
Liquid
  • ½ cup beef broth
Garnish
  • ¼ cup green olives sliced
  • ¼ cup raisins

Method
 

Cooking the Picadillo
  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula.
  2. Add the diced onion, garlic, bell pepper, carrot, and potato. Sauté until the vegetables are tender.
  3. Stir in the diced tomatoes, tomato paste, cumin, oregano, salt, black pepper, cinnamon, and beef broth. Mix well.
  4. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Add the olives and raisins, stir to combine, and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
  6. Serve hot with rice or tortillas.
